Eastham School Committee Re-Elects Higgins Chair, Advances Policy Package at June Meeting

EASTHAM — June 11, 2026 — Eastham School Committee reorganizes, honors retiring principal, and moves policy package toward fall vote. At its June 11 meeting, the five-member committee re-elected Sarah Higgins as chair and Deborah Biedman as vice chair, both by 4-0 votes, and voted 4-0 to accept policy sections I, J, K, and L on second reading. The committee honored retiring Eastham Elementary School Principal Bill Crosby, who called the evening his "110th and final school committee meeting" after 11 years in the role; the committee presented him with a Red Sox gift. New Finance Director Regal Buto — attending her first meeting on day seven in the job — reported a projected year-end deficit of approximately $77,000, to be covered through circuit breaker, rural aid, and $35,753 in extraordinary relief funding. First readings were presented for updated attendance, visitor access, homeschooling, and home-and-hospital-tutorial policies, all headed to a joint committee vote September 2; a state integrated monitoring review found one special education and five civil rights items partially implemented, with a corrective action plan due June 25.
