The Town of Eastham announced Oct. 21 that property owners considering connecting to the town's public water system should act before Jan. 1, 2027, when a new $1,000 connection fee takes effect for all new water services.

Residents who submit their application before the deadline can avoid the additional charge, according to the announcement.

The town outlined several reasons for connecting to public water, including routine testing and treatment to meet state and local health standards, a reliable supply compared with private wells, and reduced maintenance since property owners would no longer need to handle the upkeep and repairs that come with a private water system.

The town also noted that financial assistance is available for those connecting, including a water betterment loan to help cover connection costs.
