EASTHAM — The Forest Advisory Committee voted unanimously to recommend specific tree species for Wiley Park restoration. Chair Frances Lewis joined members in a March 11 site meeting with Russ Norton of the Barnstable County Cooperative Extension Service to address Southern Pine Beetle management and broader forest planning. The committee backed White Cedar and Bear Oak species, with a mix of plugs and potted seedlings, for upcoming Friends planting.
Members also planned expansion of restoration work along Border Pond to narrow foot-traffic access and replant appropriate species by elevation, and authorized a basal inventory to assess pine density as the foundation for a forest-scale management plan.
