Eastham Conservation Commission Approves Stair Replacement, Continues Most Cases to February

Eastham's Conservation Commission continued the bulk of its January 27 caseload after a snowstorm canceled planned site visits, then debated a proposal that could cut the town's Community Preservation Act funding by roughly 54 percent. Chair Karen Strauss led the hybrid meeting, during which the commission unanimously approved a one-to-one beach stair and platform replacement for Bay Shore Lane Associates at 55 Bay Shore Lane, and granted a one-year permit extension to Patricia Ryder for SE 19-1547 at 330 Silver Springs Beach Road — directing her toward a certificate of compliance rather than further renewals. Eight additional matters, including a redesigned pier-ramp-float project for Robert and Maxine Seltzer at 76 Old State Highway and a contested tree-removal application at 700 Herringbrook Road, were continued to February 10.

Strauss told the commission Eastham currently receives about $253,000 in annual state CPA matching funds and that a proposed cut of the surcharge from 3 percent to 1.5 percent — intended to redirect money to a new wastewater infrastructure fund — would eliminate all round-two and round-three state matching, representing a loss of roughly 54 percent of total CPA receipts; the commission directed Strauss to press that point before the Community Preservation Committee and Finance Committee in coming days.
