Eastham panel orders removal of dune fence
Conservation · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Eastham Conservation Commission orders removal of an unpermitted dune fence and cites a second property for pond-buffer clearing. Chair Karen Strauss and six commissioners voted unanimously to require Harold Tully of 31 Longstreet Lane to remove a rebuilt sand drift fence and staircase by November 15 or face fines up to $300 per day per post plus $200 per day for the stairs, a second violation for the property. In a separate case, the panel ordered Paige Mansfield of 50 Starlight Lane, a former town Board of Health member, to stabilize cleared soil near a pond after a September 2 stop-work order, with a wetlands delineation and updated plot plan due by October 22.
"It's not a question of us being happy or not being happy," Strauss told Tully. Commissioners also voted 6-0, with one recusal, to accept the town's first directly held conservation restriction at 20 Deacon Paine Road, and tabled a vote on donated land at 0 Old Orchard Road after finding a deed page-number discrepancy.
