Eastham Conservation Commission Grants Emergency Dock Removal at 150 Old State Highway

EASTHAM — March 24, 2026 — Eastham Conservation Commission approves emergency dock removal and advances beach nourishment reductions in a nearly three-hour session. The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to issue an emergency certification allowing new owners of 150 Old State Highway to hire Ames Marine to remove damaged seasonal docks and gangways from Town Cove within 30 days, following damage caused by the February 2026 blizzard. Separately, staff reported that citations against former property owner Gary Veioni total $30,200 — 140 days of fence violations at $100 per day and dock-related citations at $600 per day — with a consolidated district court hearing set for May 4; commissioners gave staff latitude to negotiate a settlement after learning a court magistrate had suggested $500 as a reasonable figure. The commission unanimously approved a notice of intent allowing the Persons County Village Condominium Association to reduce annual sand nourishment at 12-18 Sherwood Road, accepting engineer Chuck Roland's calculations based on a 0.6-foot-per-year coastal erosion rate in place of the previous 1.5-foot standard. A similar reduction request for 31 Bayberry Lane was continued to April 28 after Chair Karen Strauss told the applicant the filing lacked sufficient data to support the proposed cut to 26 cubic yards per year. The commission also continued the town's own notice of intent for Phase 1 of its NSET Estuary wastewater collection system — covering roughly 16 miles of pipe and 800 parcels — to April 14 pending pump station plan review, and appointed Commissioner Cinnamon Slav as the new Open Space Committee liaison.
