Board of Health · Meeting of April 30, 2026
Eastham Board of Health unanimously approved three septic variances and a fourth property review at its April 30 meeting. The board cleared an addition at 735 Massasoit Road for owners Jerry Wray and Christine Sarfati after nitrogen testing showed TKN dropping from 64 parts per million to below 10, conditioned on four-times-yearly septic sampling for two years. At 75 Knowles Street, the board granted Barbara Braun-McDonald a variance to add a bedroom above a converted cottage, citing the street's pending municipal sewer connection, and set an expiration of April 30, 2031, with annual licensed septic inspections required.
Engineer Tim Brady of East Cape Engineering secured after-the-fact approval for a well relocation at 315 Nauset Light Beach Rear, where a storm had erased roughly 18 feet of coastal bank. Architect Jeff Kaufman won review approval for a library addition at 160 Cross Cart Way after the board determined a six-foot open entry disqualified the room from the bedroom definition under local regulations. The board then opened a public hearing on draft regulations covering a new cesspool phased elimination schedule, oral nicotine pouch limits, and a first-ever section on kratom; the hearing extended beyond the available record.
