Eastham Select Board Backs Three-Topic Zoning Plan, Joins Outer Cape Efficiency Push

EASTHAM — June 15, 2026 — Eastham Select Board sets three-topic zoning agenda for 2027 town meeting and votes to join four-town efficiency workshop. The board unanimously endorsed a Zoning Task Force work plan focused on tiny houses and undersized lots, a site coverage and floor area ratio revision, and housekeeping amendments — limiting the slate after only three of eight zoning articles passed at May's town meeting. Town Planner Paul Lag and outgoing task force Chair Mary Nee cited communications breakdowns, including a flyer opposing one amendment that circulated just two days before the vote, saying "communication is probably the biggest takeaway." The board also voted to spend $1,000 toward a joint facilitated workshop with the Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown select boards and town administrators to identify shared-service efficiencies. Separately, transportation planner Don Emerson of Herring Brook Road presented Cape Cod Commission Vision Zero data showing 798 crashes in Eastham over six years, with more than half on Route 6, and the board directed staff to explore nearly $600,000 in commission-programmed road safety equipment funds.
